Laney’s Tees

My wife has started a t-shirt shop on Cafe Press. There are a lot of them out there but hers is unique with some pretty cool designs and more coming. She has some already out there. You can access her shop by clicking the image below.

Dani on YouTube?

Elaine was messing around on the net last week and found some songs our daughter did with Chris Porcelli (Vic Porcelli’s son … Vic is on the radio here in St. Louis, MO) and Mitch Leitschuh they were messing around with some Standards. Rate the songs a five. She sounds like she is from the 1930s and 1940s not the 1990s and 2000s. :-) So I’m proud of her.

Simpsonize Me!

I was watching TV the other day and noticed an ad for the site http://www.simpsonizeme.com. So I gave it a try. Not bad. You can tell that it fakes some of it by “analyzing” your picture and picking a starting picture close to you. Here is what came out of that with my tweaking for my daughter. Pretty close!

Anyway … have a good one … try Simpsonize Me and see how close it comes to you! Interesting … if not time consuming … diversion.

Musing the New Year

Well I’ve been musing the new year 2008. 2007 was a good year overall but there were struggles.

We lost our great (and amazing) friend Alex Sutherland on December 3, 2007. He was one of a kind and I’ll cherish the fact a week before he went home to be with our Lord I was able to play music with him again (and what a great time we had). That Sunday he also shared Scripture at church (NCC in Wildwood, MO) and I was able to hug him and tell him we loved him. I’ll always cherish those last moments with my “good cronie”.

Normal year of health issues and colds (and stupid seasonal allergies) … long work hours and interesting new technologies … SharePoint/MOSS 2007 baby. Server problems, new stuff, old stuff made new. Started a temporary gig with a local band. Re-organized the basement once again. :-)

We started going to a new church (NCC in Wildwood, MO) and that has been interesting and nice. We love everyone at CFC (where we attended for 25 years) but wanted to go some place closer to home to be part of and with similar views on what we believe and where God is leading us by his Word.

Vince III is in his Junior year of college and then off the police academy. Dani is a Senior in high school and then off to university out of state. <sniff />

Well it’s been an intersting year. We are hoping for a happy (and quieter) 2008. We hope and pray for all of the best for you and your family.

Feel free to drop me a line and say “hi”.

Thinking about the online stuff

You know I have to live on the computer at work. So I’ve been very lax in doing anything with my blog. Plus I keep going back and forth whether or not I should even have one other than MySpace and Facebook (of which I have profiles on both). I spend more time on Facebook these days. Just not sure.

Joe User is an attractive blog engine as are a few others … I just gotta figure out what I want to do. Does anyone even read this one here? Probably not. Harder to find. Oh well. Lots to think about.

Merry Christmas to all.

ESS Presentation

If you would like to download a copy of the presentation I gave at the Enterprise Search Summit you can get it here: Monsanto ESS 2007 Presentation.

You can get more information on our case study (including a document and video) from the Microsoft website at http://www.microsoft.com/casestudies/casestudy.aspx?casestudyid=201093. This content has been approved for release. If I can get permission to post my presentation I will do so.

Updated Live Maps and Interactive Weather Maps

OK. I know all of the Open Source folks are going to hammer me about Google Maps … fine do it. :-) I like Open Source stuff as much as the next guy … but I’m also really impressed with the strides Microsoft has made in many areas lately including live.com. Yes I’m a Microsoft fan too.

Just started messing with the new version of Live Maps. Click here to check out an example of Microsoft’s building in Creve Coeur, MO. Try adding the 3D view (similar to Google Earth if you are familiar with it).

I went out there because I noticed my friend Paul had a blog post about the new interactive weather map on weather.com (click here to check out an example) and saw that it uses Microsoft Live Maps.

Pretty cool.

Microsoft Releases MOSS Search Performance and Capacity Whitepaper

At work we recently finished implementing MOSS Search for our production Intranet and Extranet applications. It went very well and we did it with very little documentation. Microsoft TAP support (we were a MOSS Beta TAP member) and the resources they provide were great.

At the same time we would have loved to have a bit more documentation and guidance. We’ve been waiting for this one for some time. It’s great to see this finally hit the press.

As more MOSS documents become available I may blog about them here.
